Press Release Administrative Review and Judicial Appeal Study Mission Denver, Colorado, Washington DC, and New York City, New York July 27 to August 6, 2005 Enterprise Law and Investment Law Study Mission Washington DC, Dover & Wilmington, Delaware and Boston, Massachusetts July 30 to August 6, 2005 Pursuant to a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development 02 August 2005 (Washington, DC): The U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council - Education Forum and STAR-Vietnam, are pleased to be conducting two study missions to support Vietnam's efforts to comply with commitments under the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and requirements for membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). These study missions are made possible through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in cooperation with Vietnam's Office of the Government under the program for implementation of the BTA and support for WTO accession. The Administrative Review and Judicial Appeal Study Mission will focus on issues concerning the latest draft amendments and supplements to the Law on Complaints and Denunciations and the Ordinance on Settling Administrative Cases, while the Enterprise Law Study Mission will focus on outstanding issues concerning the latest draft of the Unified Enterprise Law which are all scheduled to be considered and promulgated at the 8th Session of the Vietnamese National Assembly this October. Led by Mr. Tran The Vuong, Senior Vice Chairman of the Law Committee of the National Assembly, the tenperson delegation participating in the Administrative Review and Judicial Appeal Study Mission are studying the appeal, review and correction of administrative actions and decisions in the United States. The study tour includes seven full programming days, including two days in Denver, Colorado, four days in Washington, DC and one day in New York City. Delegates are meeting with representatives of the federal and State courts, agencies, institutions, legal professionals and private enterprises participating in or overseeing the various appeal systems and/or review processes in the US. The Enterprise Law and Investment Law Study Mission includes six Vietnamese officials involved in drafting or reviewing the new Unified Enterprise Law and/or the Common Investment Law. Led by Dr. Dinh Van An, President of the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), the study tour includes five full programming days in the U.S. - one day in Washington, DC, two days in Dover and Wilmington, Delaware and two days in Boston, Massachusetts. Delegates are meeting with State and federal agencies and organizations involved in drafting, implementing and/or enforcing company law in the United States, organizations that review enterprise laws with key trading partners, as well as representatives of U.S. companies with operations in the U.S. and overseas. The U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council has worked on economic and political normalization between the two countries since 1989. Its educational affiliate, the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum, has since 1997 helped to provide technical assistance to Vietnam on issues relating to the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement, WTO Accession, and international global integration.
