Organelle Flipbook (2) Instructions
-
On the Front Flip, draw and color each organelle
On the Inside Flip, write: Organelle name, Nickname, Function
1.
Cell Wall (Tree Bark) –
- Only protects and supports the plant cell
2. Cell Membrane (Gate Keeper) –
- All cells have a cell membrane
- Controls what substances come in (nutrients & water) and out of the cell (wastes)
3. Nucleus (Control Center) - Brain of the cell
- Directs all cell activities
Nuclear Membrane (Cornea) –
 Controls what substances go into and out of nucleus
Nucleolus (Pupil) –
10. Vacuoles (Food Containers) –
-
Produces Ribosomes
4. Chromatin (Spaghetti) - Thin strands floating in the nucleus
- Contains genetic material (DNA)
5. Cytoplasm (Jello) - Clear, gel-like fluid
- Region between cell membrane and nucleus
- Cell organelles are found in cytoplasm
- Store food, water and other materials
- Plant cells only have one large vacuole
- Animal cells may or may not have vacuoles
11. Lysosomes (Garbage Collector) - Small round structures that contain harsh chemicals to
break down food particles
- Eat worn out organelles
- Cells garbage collector
12. Chloroplasts (Green Houses) -
6. Mitochondria (Powerhouse) - Produces most of the cells energy
- Looks like a sausage or candy bar
- Only found in plant cell
- Capture energy from sunlight to produce food for plant cells
(Photosynthesis)
- Give plants green color from chlorophyll (green pigment)
7. Endoplasmic Reticulum (Pipes) –
- E.R.
- Maze of passageways of interconnecting tubes
- Carry proteins and other materials
from one part of the cell to another
8. Ribosomes (Meatballs)- Grain-like bodies attached to the E.R.
- Also found floating (unattached) in the cytoplasm
9. Golgi Apparatus (Post Office) –
- Cell’s mail room or post office
- Packages and distributes proteins to other parts of the cell
