An experiment to measure Mie and Rayleigh total scattering cross
An experiment to measure Mie and Rayleigh total scattering cross

... Absorption was negligible for the particles studied so ␴ is the scattering cross section. It is necessary that the experiments be performed under conditions for which single scattering is the dominant attenuation process. Otherwise, some light scattered out of the original beam might be scattered ag ...

Photogeneration, Transport and Recombination of Charge Carriers
Photogeneration, Transport and Recombination of Charge Carriers

... • All these photo-related phenomena are based on generation of mobile charge carriers upon absorption of light by an organic material. • The light should possess a certain threshold energy. This energy is related but not always equal to the band gap. • Photoconductivity is carrier movement in extern ...

... As we can see, the data from the double slit is clearly better than that of the single slit (table 1). In fact, the error for the single slit should probably be worse than what it is. Having multiple slits provides a sharper peak. This is why I say that the error should probably be worse. We didn’t ...

... of small packets of energy. The term “quantum” comes from the Latin “quantus”, meaning “how much”, and was used by Planck in this context to represent “counting” of these elementary units. This idea was exploited by Albert Einstein, who in 1905 showed that EM waves could be equivalently treated as c ...

... The first term contains the Gaussian profile, the second term has the unidirectional wave term, and the third term has the correction to the previous term that accounts for the curvature of the wavefront. Exercise 1 Suppose that we have a HeNe laser beam with a wavelength of 632.8 nm. Consider the b ...

For example, for some particular k, light bends ‘‘the wrong way’’ at the PC interface as a result of the curvature of the equifrequency surfaces [16] in spite of hSi k— and therefore the effective refractive index— being positive. Also, in a PC system with hSi k>0 coupling to a ...

... Total current flowing into RL has three components: Id = Dark current. In principle, we can subtract this or block it with a capacitor if Iph is an ac (transient) signal. Iph = Photocurrent. This is the signal. We need this. It could be a steady or varying (ac or transient) signal. in = Total shot n ...

Chapter 7 The Quantum- Mechanical Model of the Atom - NTOU-Chem

... It was observed that many metals emit electrons when a light shines on their surface. – This is called the photoelectric effect. Classic wave theory attributed this effect to the light energy being transferred to the electron. According to this theory, if the wavelength of light is made shorter, or ...

Thomas Young (scientist)

Thomas Young (13 June 1773 – 10 May 1829) was an English polymath and physician. Young made notable scientific contributions to the fields of vision, light, solid mechanics, energy, physiology, language, musical harmony, and Egyptology. He ""made a number of original and insightful innovations""in the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs (specifically the Rosetta Stone) before Jean-François Champollion eventually expanded on his work. He was mentioned by, among others, William Herschel, Hermann von Helmholtz, James Clerk Maxwell, and Albert Einstein. Young has been described as ""The Last Man Who Knew Everything"".
