Coatings, Filters, and Surface Finishes
Coatings, Filters, and Surface Finishes

... Most optical surfaces are not bare glass or plastic, but are coated with one or more thin layers of another material to modify their transmission and reflection properties. The most common are antireflection (AR) and mirror coatings, but sometimes we want a beamsplitter, a polarizer, or a filter, al ...

... The gravity-driven flow of a liquid film down a vertical flat plate in the presence of an electric field acting in a direction perpendicular to the wall is investigated. The film is assumed to be a perfect conductor, and the bounding region of air above the film is taken to be a perfect dielectric. ...

... crucial parameter mainly responsible for the creation of photonic band gaps, as has been extensively discussed in Refs. 29 to 31. The equality of the s and p wave gaps is a special feature that works only when either the refractive index or the wave impedance is uniform. It is easy to verify this by ...

Effects of Quantum well Size Alteration on Excitonic Population

... In this paper, the effects of changing quantum well size on tuning slow device properties will present. Considering the effect of change in quantum well width and dielectric constant mismatch on binding energy and oscillator strength, we developed a new technique for controlling the slow dawn factor ...

Plane Mirrors

... A plane mirror has even surfaces. The normal is a line perpendicular to all points of a plane mirror. The angle of incidence is an angle that light hits the mirror relative to the normal. The angle of reflection is an angle of that light's reflection, on the other part of the normal, and is equal to ...

Thomas Young (scientist)

Thomas Young (13 June 1773 – 10 May 1829) was an English polymath and physician. Young made notable scientific contributions to the fields of vision, light, solid mechanics, energy, physiology, language, musical harmony, and Egyptology. He ""made a number of original and insightful innovations""in the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs (specifically the Rosetta Stone) before Jean-François Champollion eventually expanded on his work. He was mentioned by, among others, William Herschel, Hermann von Helmholtz, James Clerk Maxwell, and Albert Einstein. Young has been described as ""The Last Man Who Knew Everything"".
