... polemic was nonexistent. The paper bore a reference only to Rayleigh. But one can see from the text of the paper, very comprehensive and detailed, that the paper was a direct answer to the questions posed by Mandelstam. Lorentz gave a thorough derivation of the formulas which define the interaction ...

Rotational Spectroscopy of Diatomic Molecules - Assets

... Molecular spectroscopy involves the study of the absorption or emission of electromagnetic radiation by matter; the radiation may be detected directly, or indirectly through its effects on other molecular properties. The primary purpose of spectroscopic studies is to understand the nature of the nuc ...

... Conventional measurement of state-of-charge (SOC) in open port, lead-acid batteries is made via hydrometers that determine the specific gravity of the electrolyte. The specific gravity is the historical gold standard of SOC and is proportional to the concentration of H2SO4. One specific drawback of ...

Anisotropic crystals have crystallographically distinct axes and interact with light in a manner that is dependent upon the orientation of the crystalline lattice with respect to the incident light. When light enters the optical axis (c) of anisotropic crystals, it acts in a manner similar to intera ...

... of the plane vertices) equal to zero (see [Levoy 1996]). This places the uv plane at infinity, which causes the input data to be treated as orthographic. Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
