Infrared Vibration-Rotation Spectroscopy of HCl and DCl

... Both the vibrational and rotational motions of a molecule are quantized. Vibrational motion describes the internal motion of an atom within a molecule relative to other atoms. In a diatomic molecule, this motion occurs along the bond and is called a stretching. This motion depends largely on the str ...

Comparing the moth eye with the human eye, the num bers in the Table show that for point-like objects the number q of quanta per receptor is smaller by a factor of 1000 than in the human eye (ra ...

... At the top of this figure you see that a more complex series of reactions is responsible for the production of tropospheric ozone. The production of tropospheric ozone begins with nitric oxide (NO). NO is produced when nitrogen and oxygen in air are heated (in an automobile engine for example) and ...

... The intensity of the quasi-static electric field permits to evaluate the potential difference (at a given altitude) between the ionosphere and the ground, as if they were the plates of a capacitor. Weather phenomena, like incoming storms, can influence the electric field value in the range of 24 hou ...

... Flash lamp pump source are relatively cheap and can provide very high powers. They are fairly robust, e.g. immune to voltage or current spikes. The lifetime of lamps is very limited, normally some hundred or up to a few thousand hours. The wall-plug efficiency of the laser is low, typically at most ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
