... characteristic is simple. For example, a low-pass filter may have a transfer function that is inversely proportional to frequency in the limit of high-frequency. We say, H(ω) ∼ ω-1. In general H (ω) ∼ωn, where n is a negative number for a low-pass filter. In the asymptotic limit, a filter has a gain ...

1 Homework Assignment 09 Question 1 Electronics engineers are

... Question 1 Electronics engineers are often interested in the input- and output resistance of amplifiers. Provide two reasons for this and briefly explain. (4 points) Answer One reason is that the input resistance of an amplifier can load the source at its input. For example, if the output resistance ...

Log-domain filters have received considerable attention due to their potential advantages over conventional continuous-time filters and as such a number of log-domain filters have been reported earlier1. The log-domain filters are externally linear but internally highly non-linear. The processing of ...

... The difference between red and blue curves show that indeed the amplifier cannot entirely follow a full-scale step. The green curve shows why: the output filter determines the slew rate limit. Slew rate at 0V in this graph is 9V/us, sufficient to reproduce a 35kHz full-power signal. An alternative w ...

Audio crossover

Audio crossovers are a class of electronic filter used in audio applications. Most individual loudspeaker drivers are incapable of covering the entire audio spectrum from low frequencies to high frequencies with acceptable relative volume and absence of distortion so most hi-fi speaker systems use a combination of multiple loudspeaker drivers, each catering to a different frequency band. Crossovers split the audio signal into separate frequency bands that can be separately routed to loudspeakers optimized for those bands.Active crossovers are distinguished from passive crossovers in that they divide the audio signal prior to amplification. Active crossovers come in both digital and analog varieties. Digital active crossovers often include additional signal processing, such as limiting, delay, and equalization.Signal crossovers allow the audio signal to be split into bands that are processed separately before they are mixed together again. Some examples are: multiband dynamics (compression, limiting, de-essing), multiband distortion, bass enhancement, high frequency exciters, and noise reduction such as Dolby A noise reduction.
