How the Climate Affects Forests
How the Climate Affects Forests

... Evidence of Change Historical data goes back about one hundred years for some climate measures. There are a variety of ways climate factors can be inferred, such as pollen cores in bogs and the study of tree rings. Globally, some measures go back 100,000 years. Records over the past 100 years demons ...

... The phenomenon of global warming is multi-factorial, but is attributed largely to human activity. In terms of geologic time, the Earth’s climate oscillates naturally between hot spells and ice ages (Zachos et al. 2001). Scientists explain these regular oscillations in terms of variations in the amo ...

Instrumental temperature record

The instrumental temperature record shows fluctuations of the temperature of earth's climate system. Initially the instrumental temperature record only documented land and sea surface temperature, but in recent decades instruments have also begun recording ocean temperature. Data is collected from thousands of meteorological stations around the globe and through satellite observations. The longest-running temperature record is the Central England temperature data series, that starts in 1659. The longest-running quasi-global record starts in 1850.
