The Missing Science from the Draft National Assessment on Climate Change
The Missing Science from the Draft National Assessment on Climate Change

... “U.S. average temperature has increased by about 1.5°F since record keeping began in 1895; more than 80% of this increase has occurred since 1980.” The 80% number is grossly misleading and statistically unjustified (see our Comment on Page 35, lines 8-9, and lines 20-23 for an in-depth analysis). It ...

Broader perspectives for comparing different greenhouse gases

... However, comparing the effects of emissions of greenhouse gases leads to a more complex situation because it needs to take into account the rate at which a gas is removed from the atmosphere, as well as its side effects on atmospheric chemistry. In this context, the GWP is an index giving the ratio ...

These results suggest that a ‘‘business as usual’’ approach to greenhouse gas emissions mitigation could result in twice as many heat-related deaths by the end of the century than a lower emissions scenario. Environmental Impacts—Marine Ecosystems

... Temperature is indeed a key variable in the marine environment because it is affected by many hydro-climatic processes (Beaugrand et al. 2008) and because it exerts an effect on many fundamental biological and ecological processes (Sunday et al. 2012). At smaller scales however, this factor acts in ...

Instrumental temperature record

The instrumental temperature record shows fluctuations of the temperature of earth's climate system. Initially the instrumental temperature record only documented land and sea surface temperature, but in recent decades instruments have also begun recording ocean temperature. Data is collected from thousands of meteorological stations around the globe and through satellite observations. The longest-running temperature record is the Central England temperature data series, that starts in 1659. The longest-running quasi-global record starts in 1850.
