... localized charge distribution, then V ( r d ) ~ 1 r and E ( r d ) = −∇V ( r d ) ~ 1 r 2 . If the localized charge distribution has no net electric charge, then for r d the potential V ( r d ) and hence the electric field E ( r d ) will fall of more rapidly than 1 r and 1 r 2 , respectively. {Please ...

... Inertia again • But we already said that inertia characterizes a body’s tendency to retain its motion (I.e. to not change its velocity), We say a heavier object has more inertia. • But inertia and weight are different – A body in space is weightless, but it still resists a push ...

On the opening day of the Shelter Island conference, in June of that year, Willis Lamb presented his data showing the splitting of the 2S1/2 and 2P1/2 electron energy levels of the hydrog ...

In 1961 Murray Gell-Mann and Yuval Ne’eman independently proposed a classification system called the eightfold way that separated the known particles into multiplets based on charge, hypercharge, and another quantum number called isospin, which we have not previously discussed. Quantum vacuum thruster

A quantum vacuum plasma thruster (or Q-thruster) is a proposed type of spacecraft thruster that would work in part by acting on the virtual particles produced by quantum vacuum fluctuations. This was proposed as a possible model for an engine that could produce thrust without carrying its own propellant. Some physicists working with microwave resonant cavity thrusters think that they might be the first examples of such an engine.
