Comparison of Target-Capture and Restriction

... Abstract.—Restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) and target capture of specific genomic regions, such as ultraconserved elements (UCEs), are emerging as two of the most popular methods for phylogenomics using reducedrepresentation genomic data sets. These two methods were designed to ta ...

The Biology and Evolution of Mammalian Y Chromosomes

... the Y chromosome: testis determination. In 1959, reports of 45,X females (Turner syndrome, with oocyte-depleted ovaries) and 47,XXY males (Klinefelter syndrome, with germ-cell-depleted testes) established the existence of a testis-determining gene on the human Y chromosome (32, 53), and the ensuing ...

Natural variation in nucleolar dominance reveals

... n genetic hybrids or allopolyploids, nucleoli often assemble at specific chromosomal loci of one parent but not the other. This phenomenon, known as nucleolar dominance (1–4), was initially discovered as a change in chromosome structure (5). At nucleolus organizer regions (NORs), the loci where nucl ...

Estimating complexity and adaptation in the embryo: a

... In here, I analysed gene expression information to estimate both complexity and adaptation in the embryo using a statistical approach. To measure complexity, I developed quantitative measures of spatial complexity and used them in publicly available gene expression data (thousands of in situ hybridi ...

Pathogenomics

Pathogen infections are among the leading causes of infirmity and mortality among humans and other animals in the world. Until recently, it has been difficult to compile information to understand the generation of pathogen virulence factors as well as pathogen behaviour in a host environment. The study of Pathogenomics attempts to utilize genomic and metagenomics data gathered from high through-put technologies (e.g. sequencing or DNA microarrays), to understand microbe diversity and interaction as well as host-microbe interactions involved in disease states. The bulk of pathogenomics research concerns itself with pathogens that affect human health; however, studies also exist for plant and animal infecting microbes.
