Project: Build your own Cell Model
Due:
Value: 50 marks
Challenge:
Design and build a three-dimensional model of a cell that includes all the organelles a cell
needs in order to function.
Materials:
Use everyday items of your choice to build your model. Some examples may include:
gelatin, modeling clay, a shoe box, Styrofoam, pipe-cleaners, plastic
wrap, hard candies, dried
pasta, craft items, play-doe, etc…
Design Criteria:
1.
Your model may be either a plant cell or an animal cell.
2.
The organelles needed for the cell to function must be present.
3.
Your model parts must be clearly visible and the model should be no larger than a
shoebox or volleyball.
Hints for Success:
1.
Decide whether to build a plant or animal cell.
2.
List the organelles that your cell needs to function.
3.
Decide which materials would best represent your cell and each organelle in your
cell. Write each item beside the matching organelle in the list you made.
4.
Make a neatly labeled sketch of your design. Label organelles too.
5.
Build your cell.
6.
Pass in to the teacher, with your name on it, on or before the due date noted above.
Good luck and be creative!!
