Chapter 10 Review Questions:
1. Calculate the surface area, volume, and SA/V ratio of a cell. Ex: a ‘cell’ cube
with the dimensions of a side of 2 cm.
2. What is the relationship between cell size and the SA/V ratio?
3. Why are cells small?
4. What is the relationship between interphase and cell division?
5. What are the events that occur during the cell cycle? Can you diagram the cell
cycle ‘clock’?
6. Explain what happens during mitosis to the nucleus of a cell
7. What events take place during interphase to prepare the cell for mitosis?
8. Explain how the following terms are related to one another. DNA, centromere,
chromosome, chromatid, chromatin.
9. How does the number of chromosomes in the two new cells compare with the
number in the original cell at the end of cell division?
10. When some cells are removed from the center of a tissue culture, will new cells
replace the cells that were removed? Explain how this happens (discuss internal
and external regulators).
11. Describe the role of cyclin in the cell cycle.
12. Know the role of internal and external regulation/regulators. Give examples.
