Want to do well on Friday’s quiz? Here’s your chance. Answer these questions
and earn some extra credit while also studying for the quiz. Most of the quiz
questions will be pulled directly from this guide, so it’ll be well worth your time!
Cell Bio
1. Describe the form and function of the following organelles:
a. Nucleus
b. Cell membrane
c. Mitochondria
d. Ribosome
e. Golgi apparatus
f. Lysosome
g. Valuole
h. Endoplasmic reticulum
i. Microtubules
2. Describe the difference between plant and animal cells,
including both their shape and organelles.
3. Describe the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic
(bacteria) cells, including both their shape and organelles.
Mitosis
1. Draw the cell cycle, including the four phases of mitosis,
cytokenisis, the three stages of interphase, and G0.
2. Draw 5 cells as they would appear in the following stages:
interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
Be able to label the visible parts.
3. Describe using only words what is happening in each of the 9
stages (3 stages of interphase, G0, four phases of mitosis and
cytokinesis.)
4. Describe the relative lengths of the stages of mitosis. Which
takes the longest? Which is shortest?
5. Explain why cells have to divide. What limits cell size?
6. Explain the differences between the following words:
a. Chromosome vs. chromatin vs. chromatid
b. Autosome vs. sex chromosome

1. What is a karyotype and what is it used for?
2. What are the symptoms of having 3 copies of the 21st
chromosome?
3. What are symptoms of having only one X chromosome?
