The Muscular System
Did you know?
The human body contains more than 600 muscles. Naming all these muscles can
be difficult. Most muscles have Latin or Greek names that tell things such as the
direction the muscle runs, the bone it is attached to, or what job the muscle does.
For this activity, you will need Internet access to an online Latin dictionary as well as a
diagram of muscles of the human body.
1. Look at the names of the muscles. Use an online Latin dictionary to find the meanings
of the words in each name. Use the meanings to tell where you think the muscle is
located on the body.

2. Find an online anatomy site that lists the muscles and their location. Then write the
