The Civil War By #24 Introduction • • • The civil war was the bloodiest in the United States history . 160,000 solders in the Union and Confederacy. More men died from diseases then in battle The Union and Confederate Armies • The union was led by Abraham Lincoln. • The Confederate was led by General Robert E. Lee. New Orleans • The Battle Of New Orleans was in 1839. • British sent between 11,000 and14,450 troops led by Major General sir Edward. • United States sent between 3,500 and 5,000 troops. Gettysburg • On July 1st an army of Confederate solders entered Gettysburg. • Union sent 15,000 troop to attack the middle of general Meade's defensive line. • In the end the union won. Military Tactics Technology • The North used hot air balloons to spy. • The south was the first us the telegraph • They both had iron on the sides of they’re ships. • They fought with bayonets, stones, guns, and they’re fists. Combat Conditions •The sky was filled with black smoke from the bombing •They got in rows 13 inches In front and they where elbow to elbow. •Drums beat 110 beat per minute. Medical Care •Most of the time the south did not have the write tools or medicines. •The tools where simple like a bone saw to remove wounded arms and legs. •The north had better medical care. Foods and Drinks •When the south ran short on food they had to find there own food. •They ate things like hardhack are filled with worms and weevils. Conditions on the home front •In the north people where mad at the draft. •People in the south where scared because their was a lot of fighting in the south. . From Gettysburg to Appomattox • The Union captured Confederate’s army from Vicksburg. • On April 9,Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox court house in Virginia. Conclusion • Now you know why the Civil War was the most bloodiest war in United States history.
