K-RITH Seminar Guest Speaker: Valerie Mizrahi Director: Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IDM) and Molecular Mycobacteriology Research Unit, University of Cape Town Friday 26 June 12 pm K1 Seminar Room, K-RITH Tower Building Targeting core metabolic pathways a in M. tuberculosis ABSTRACT Research in my laboratory is aimed at identifying metabolic vulnerabilities in M. tuberculosis and elucidating mechanisms by which the inhibition of core metabolic functions results in death of the tubercle bacillus. In this talk, I will describe the integrated genetic, biochemical and physiological approach we are taking to address these questions using pyrimidine metabolism and coenzyme A metabolism as illustrative examples
