Advance Business Intelligence Workshop By Dr. Amos Baranes PhD, CPA Business Intelligence is a set of tools that allows the enterprise to record and analyze its data to turn it to useful information for decision making, innovation and to create competitive advantage. Every manager and entrepreneur must have a clear understanding of the capabilities of BI (including Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data) and every enterprise must have the personnel with the skills to implement these platforms. In this workshop, we will layout the foundation of business intelligence with a brief historical evolution up to date. We demonstrate hands on practice on publicly available database. We will conclude with advanced research example in which we demonstrate the use of MS SQL database with R statistical software. Topics of the workshop: A. Business Intelligence (BI) a. What is Business Intelligence? From operation to decision making and product innovation. b. Short description of the structure of BI for research and for enterprise. i. Relational Database. ii. Extract Transform & Load (ETL) Process iii. Multi-Dimension Cubes – OLAP. iv. Dash Board (& Reporting). v. Introduction to Analytic. c. Demonstration in Financial Analysis (and how to apply them to other fields: Finance, Accounting, Marketing etc.) B. New and future Applications of BI We will survey the current applications of BI and the foreseeable path of this field of smart agent, analytics, mobile, big data framework, data science etc. C. Case Study – Ideation We will demonstrate how to use BI tools of MS SQL with the R software to value ideas and value of valuators. R software is one of the most used in data science and Big Data. Dr. Amos Baranes earned his PhD from the University of Chicago, and is also a Certified Public Accountant in the United States. He worked at PWC as a Senior Economist in the field of Transfer Pricing. At Lexecon Inc., Dr. Baranes developed the practice of Corporate and Asset Valuation. He also founded the company AVNAT Ltd., which provides business intelligence services to financial institutions. He is also the author of the book: “Business Intelligence for Business”. Recently, Dr. Baranes established Africa Industrial Business Center (AIBC), which provides consulting services on behalf of the World Bank in the fields of Business Intelligence and Training for Financial Institutions. Currently, he lectures in advanced courses in Data Science (IS), Entrepreneurship, and Finance at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, the University of Haifa, and Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
