What is the Internet?

The worlds largest computer network.
A collection of local, regional and
national computer networks linked
together to exchange data and
distribute processing tasks.
What is a “Network?

Two or more computers that are
connected.
What is a LAN?

Local Area Network. The computers
are near each other.
What is a WAN?

Wide Area Network. The computers
are different geographical sites.
What does WWW stand for?

World Wide Web
How is information sent over the
Internet?

In Packets, downloading a section at a
time.
What is a modem?

A MO-dulator DE-Modulator. A device
that lets a personal computer
communicate with other computers
over telephone lines.
What kind of information is Digital
info?

Electronic signals from an electronic
device.
What kind of information is Analog
info?

Sound waves from a telephone
device.
What is the Title Bar?

Shows the title of the open Web Page
and the Web Browsers program name.
What is the Toolbar?

Shows the icons for moving around
the Web Page.
What is an Icon?

Small picture of the menu item you are
choosing.
What is the Address Bar?

URL – Shows the address for the site
you are accessing. Where you type
the address.



A program which acts like a library
card catalog for the Internet. They

you are on.
