Bookmarks are the foundation of web surfing.
There are literally hundreds of thousands of Web
sites on the World Wide Web. No one wants to type
in long URLs when going to a frequently visited site.
Using bookmarks gets us to our favorite web pages
without having to type in the URL. Most of us have
become accustomed to adding to our favorites or
bookmarks. This is fine if we are working from our
own computer, but not at all helpful when we are
working at a different computer or trying to share
a URL with a friend or colleague. Backflip is one of
several online bookmarking sites that open a whole
new world of possibilities!
There are two basic ways to bookmark. When you
are working at your own computer, you can simply
use your browser to bookmark. Internet Explorer
calls these Favorites. In Internet Explorer, favorites
are a selection on the menu bar. In Netscape
Communicator these Bookmarks are a selection on
the toolbar. Even though they have different names
and configurations, they both perform the same
function. The second method for bookmarking is to
use an online bookmarking site. This will allow you
to access your bookmarks from any computer.
