During the video.
1. Biodiversity means that an ecosystem has lots of different kinds of plants and animals.
2. Approximately 71% of the world’s surface is covered with water. Therefore, most of
the world’s living things live in the water.
3. All living things depend on other living things. The more different kinds of living
things in an ecosystem, the more successful it is. This is called biodiversity.
4. Removing a species from its natural environment will cause it to become extinct.
After the video.
1. When a living thing (like a plant, animal, or insect species) becomes extinct, that
means that there is no more of that species still alive on the earth. What is the danger of a
plant or animal species becoming extinct? It disrupts the food cycle. It breaks the food
chain. Living things that depend on the extinct species loses that food source. (In some
cases, some species depend on other species for shelter. Those species lose their home.)
2. Can you think of a food cycle? Draw two.
3. Can you think of a few ecosystems? List and describe them.

4. A farm has lots of animals. Is it an ecosystem? Why or why not? No; because the
different animals don’t depend on each other
5. When can removing plants from an environment help biodiversity? When you
remove species in an environment that are not native to that environment. Those foreign
species consume the resources in that environment that native species depend upon.
