Marketing Competitive Events Conference Overview ............................................................................................... 2 Rules and Policies................................................................................ 3 I-1 Marketing Competitive Events Conference Competition Overview The following events will be offered at district competition: Apparel & Accessories Marketing Quick Serve Restaurant Management Retail Merchandising Series Sports & Entertainment Marketing AND Any other event(s) added at the districts discretion. Students will compete in two different events: 1. 2. Comprehensive Exam 100 question multiple choice exam Instructional areas evaluated: See marketing course competency list. Time: 1 hour Performance Event Performance activity evaluated by a professional(s) Instructional areas evaluated: See Marketing and Marketing Management course competency lists. Time: Varies according to event. Generally 10 minutes to prepare and 8-10 minutes to present information to a judge. Recognition will be given in the following manner: Proficiency Awards – Two duplicate certificates (one for the student, one for the school) are given to those students reaching 70% on composite score. Instructional Area Awards – Medallions are given to the top scorer in each section of each competitive event and a corresponding number of comprehensive exam participants. Series Awards – Six finalists are identified from the total composite score of the exam and performance event. Each receives a finalist medallion. From the finalists, overall district winners are determined. Each receives a plaque and a trophy. I-2 Marketing Competitive Events Conference Rules and Policies Purpose: The Marketing Competitive Events Conference is designed to test student knowledge of marketing competencies as identified through testing and student role playing and to recognize students for achievement. Rules: Attendance at the Marketing Competitive Events Conference is open to all chapter members provided: 1. State and national dues have been paid by the deadline set by National DECA. 2. Written approval of the coordinator and parent or guardian is secured. (See Comprehensive Consent Form, Section B) 3. The chapter member is in compliance with local policies regarding grades. Registration: 1. Complete MCEC Registration Form and MCEC Summary Form. 2. Follow all guidelines and rules as sent to you by your District MCEC Director and/or Board of Directors Chairperson. Your Board of Directors Chairperson must be sent the following on or before the postmark deadline to avoid penalties: a. MCEC Registration form. b. MCEC Summary. c. Copy of Chapter Membership Roster and any Additions Rosters that apply. d. Copy of check used to pay membership dues to National DECA. ***In order to avoid a late fee assessed on your registration, copies to each listed person must be postmarked by your district’s MCEC postmark deadline. A postmark is required—do not use courier mail. 3. Those schools that register no later than 24 hours (1 day) after the postmark date will have their registration assessed a late fee as decided on by the members of the district. Registration postmarked later than 48 hours (2 days) after the prescribed postmark date will result in additional late fees being assessed and possible disqualification. 4. Should MCEC be canceled due to inclement weather, please refer to the Weather Hardship Formula (State CDC, Section J4, #10.) to determine eligibility for the State Career Development Conference. Dress & Conduct Code: All rules and regulations of the dress and conduct code as outlined in the DECA Handbook will be in effect. Students inappropriately dressed will be disqualified from competition and awards. Award Eligibility: 1. A student competitor must compete in every event to be eligible for awards. Any student who does not complete the entire series of competitive events is automatically disqualified from all awards presented for the event or series. 2. Students must be present to receive awards. Any student not present for the awards session forfeits awards, unless prior written approval has been received by the NC DECA Advisor or Board of Directors Chairperson for his/her district.
