Statement
In 70 BC Rome was an
awesome place to
live. Politicians and
generals were able to
keep everyone happy
and the citizens
flourished.
When a leader is
cruel, incompetent,
unfair, or disloyal to
the people she/he is
leading, it is
acceptable to forcibly
remove the person
from office by
whatever means
necessary.
Cicero is considered
the greatest general
of Rome. He is
admired for his
bravery and skill in
battle.

Reasons
Caesar formed an
alliance with Pompey
and Crassus. This
alliance flourished for
decades.
After the war in Gaul,
Caesar was so powerful
that even his friends
were jealous and afraid
of him.
When Caesar crossed
the Rubicon River and
returned to Rome, this
was a legal act and a
victory for Rome.
Afraid that Caesar
would attack him,
Pompey and his allies
fled Italy because they
did not think they had
enough troops to
defeat Caesar.
When Caesar returned
to Rome he named
himself Dictator for 10
years.
Caesar was stabbed to
death on March 15, 44
BC. To the Romans,
March was called the
Ides of March, and
before he was killed he
was warned to “beware
the Ides of March.”
Among the attackers
who killed Caesar was
Romulus, who had been
friend and ally of
Caesar.
