Introduction
 Subject: Language Arts
 Grades: 6-8
 Objectives: For students to be able
to identify simple grammar terms in everyday
sentences.
 Directions : Students can take their time
moving through the different slides.
There are examples on each teaching slide.
This should help the students identify the
different nouns when it is time to take the quiz.
Grammar Terms!
 Noun: A Person, Place or Thing.
 Examples: mom, tree, Washington D.C.
 Can you identify the nouns in the following
 sentence?
Mary went to the store to get lemons.
 There are three nouns in this sentence:
Mary (who is a person),
store (which is a place), and
lemons (which is a thing)!
Grammar Terms!
 Pronoun: a word that can substitute for a noun.
 Examples: he, she, it, we, they, them
 There are two pronouns in the following
sentence. Can you identify them?
He was riding in his car.
 He and his are both pronouns. Car is a noun.
Now try this!
 Verb: An action or a state.
 Example: Walk, run, jump, sit.
 Can you find the verb in the following sentence?
The cow jumped over the moon.
The verb in this sentence is jumped!
Conjunction junction

 Conjunction: A word which connects
words, phrases, or clauses.
 Examples: and, but, & or.
 What is the conjunction in the
sentence below?
I can do this or that.
Or is the conjunction in this sentence!
Now lets try prepositions!
 Preposition: A word that links a noun or
pronoun to other words.
 Hint: (Think about what you can do to a
box!)
 Examples: in, over, under
 You can go over a box, under a box, or in a box!
 Now see if you can identify the
preposition in the next sentence!
 I ran under the tree.
 The preposition in this sentence is
under!
