NETWORK MARKETING AND ON-AIR MANAGER

Main purpose of the position:
Reporting to the General Manager Channels, the incumbent has to develop and implement
marketing strategies that will retain and increase the audience market share, improve share of
voice and brand health of SABC Channel brands and sub brands as well as identify marketing
opportunities and partnerships to achieve this objective.
Key Accountabilities:
















Clearly articulate departmental vision and purpose and provide direction and inspiration to
the marketing team, including on-air promotions and digital teams:
Establish and encourage a culture of creativity; innovation, selecting and nurturing of ideas,
as well as bringing change to the current team;
Oversee the refining of On-Air branding to ensure effective world class On-Air imaging of the
three Television bouquets (Channels)
Develop and manage the implementation of annual budgets, Marketing, Digital and On-Air
strategies to drive overall network brand direction.
Promote the network, individual channel brands and programmes using the various
marketing tools;
Operate with the highest ethics and integrity in all functions and duties;
Oversee the allocation of team marketing resources and budgets;
Identify and create partnerships with service providers and brands to ensure alignment of
projects according to the Marketing, Digital and On-Air strategies in order to gain market
share, create brand extensions and alternative revenue opportunities for SABC TV;
Position SABC TV in the market as the leading media and television brand of choice
Ensure that all network schedules are accurately communicated in advance, e.g. EPG,
Media Releases e.tc
Liaise and maintain a positive relationship with all relevant media owners and customers to
ensure effective publicity for SABC TV.
Be the custodian of and manage the relationship with all Marketing Agencies;
Develop a CSI plan and strategy for SABC TV in partnership with Corporate Office
Ensure efficient use of time to place and rotate promotional materials across the three
Television bouquets;
Create presentation materials for team meetings as well as for sales that position the
bouquets to various advertisers and stakeholders
Establish SLA’s with relevant Divisions
Requirements:




Marketing Degree/ BTech or equivalent
5-7 years experience at a television station/network or advertising agency with an emphasis
in consumer marketing or brand;
A working knowledge of On-air production is preferred;
Applicant must possess strong verbal and written communication skills;












Must be a self-starter, highly organized and detail oriented;
Exceptional critical thinking and strategy development skills - can process and analyse
large amounts of information quickly;
Skilled at motivating and influencing individuals and groups towards a desired outcome.
Willingness to work long and irregular hours
Should demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and lateral thinking abilities
Ability to compile and manage a marketing budget
Ability to function under pressure
Should have a passion for the TV industry, and a thorough appreciation of, public and
community needs, and the necessary flexibility and sensitivity to deal with the broad
spectrum of stakeholders, results focused
Possess sound management, planning and implementation skills
Computer literacy with commercial aptitude is essential
Skills sought include interpersonal, organisational and strong leadership
Passion for digital and social media
Preference will be given, but not limited to, candidates from designated groups in terms
