Weather Test 1 Study Guide
Make sure to use your book and your notes. There is not a lot of room on this study guide, so you need
to answer these on a separate sheet of paper. Then you can use these questions and definitions to
study tonight. Work hard! 
Section A – Water Cycle
1) Define all 4 terms and be able to give examples of each and define groundwater
2) How much water covers the Earth? How much is salt water and how much is fresh water?
Remember that water is not created or destroyed. No new water has been added to the Earth’s
supply.
Section B - Atmosphere and Air Temperature
3) List and explain the layers of the atmosphere. Where does weather occurs?
4) How are water and land able to heat and cool?
5) Define the angle of insolation. How does this relates to temperature?
6) What is air pressure (remember our key word)? How you measure it?
7) What affects air pressure? What makes high pressure? low pressure?
8) Define weather, weather tools like thermometer, anemometer, weather vane, rain gauge,
hygrometer

9) Explain relative humidity?
10) What air sinks and rises? What happens as warm air rises?
Section D - Clouds and Precipitation
11) List and describe all types of clouds (stratus, nimbostratus, cumulus, cirrus, cumulonimbus) and
what weather they bring.
12) What are the different types of precipitation?
13) In what type of cloud hail forms? What the conditions required for hail?
