Causes of the Revolutionary War
The French and Indian War helped lead up to the
Revolutionary War because Great Britain lost a lot of money
during the war even though they won. King George decided
to tax the colonies in order to regain the money. Soon after
was the Boston Massacre. This trifle started by some boys
throwing snowballs at British soldiers. Then a mob formed
and shots were fired. After that the colonies revolted by
throwing all the British tea in to the Boston Harbor. This was
called the Boston Tea Party. They had a saying the said “No
Taxation without Representation.” This means the colonies
shouldn’t be taxed without having a say in Parliament. All this
eventually started the Revolutionary War.
Important Battles of the
Revolutionary War


One important battle of the Revolutionary War was the battle of
Lexington and Concord. It started with Paul Revere and other messengers
telling Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming.
The British soldiers were then met by the colonial Minutemen. They were
called this because they were ready to fight very quickly. The leader of the
Minutemen saw they were outnumber and called retreat but someone shot
(we don’t know if it was the British or Patriots) and the battle started.
Other Minutemen showed up and the British retreated but were attacked
when marching back.
Another important battles was the Breeds/Bunker Hill Battle. This Battle
is commonly called Battle of Bunker Hill even though it took place on
Breed’s Hill. The battle was between the Patriots and the British, of
course. The British suffered much in this war. The Patriots had attacked 2
times already but on their 3rd attack they ran out of ammunition and had
to retreat, losing this battle.
Important People of the
Revolutionary War



George Washington was a messenger during the French
and Indian War. He had to ask the French to stop
building forts. He was the head of the colonial army
during the Revolutionary War. Then he eventually
became the 1st President of the United States.
Thomas Jefferson wrote and signed the Declaration of
Independence. He was known as a Founding Father of
the United States. Then he eventually became the 3rd
President of the United States
Thomas Paine wrote the book Common Sense. This
book promoted the Revolutionary War. He went
on to write some more books.
Important Documents of
the Revolutionary War


One important document is the Proclamation of 1763. This
document stated that all the land west of the Appalachian
Mountains is under the control of Canada. This means that the
settlers can’t move west anymore. King George states he did this
so the Indians wouldn’t be mad at the colonists. Many people
believe he didn’t want to pay for more British soldiers being sent
over there.
Another important document is the Declaration of
Independence. This document was adopted on July 4th, 1776. It
was adopted during the 2nd Continental Congress. This
document stated that the colonies were free and independent
states. It wanted the separation from British Rule. This
document is why we celebrate the Fourth of July.
