Digestive Activity
This will be due on Friday October 11th - at the beginning of the period
You will have 1 ½ class periods to work on in.
1. Label and color each organ of digestion on the diagram on the back of this sheet.
Use page 638 of your textbook to help you identify each organ.
a. include each digestive organ
b. include whether the organ is responsible for mechanical or chemical digestion
or both.
c. describe in your own words what is happening to the food. Be sure to use the
proper terminology.
2. Look up the following prefix/suffix word roots pertaining to the digestive system.
(If you ask me I will deduct points) – Most of these are not in your textbook.
a. Identify the body parts or functions associated with each.
i. Hepatoii. Gastroiii. Enteroiv. Pepsv. -itis
b. Write down their original meanings
3. Follow the example in the completed protein flowchart to finish the similar
flowchart for carbohydrates. Next, construct your own flowchart describing the
digestion and absorption of fats:
Protein Digestion
And Absorption
Carbohydrate Digestion
and Absorption
Stomach: Pepsin hydrolyzes
Proteins into polypeptides
Mouth:
Pancreas: Pancreatic enzymes
Complete breakdown of
proteins Into amino acids
Pancreas:
Small intestine: Amino acids
are absorbed.
Small Intestines:
Fat Digestion
and Absorption
Be sure to label each of structure and organ that the food either passes through or is
effected by as you complete the figure above.
