Cell Analogy Project:
Name:_________________________________________________Period:_____Date:__________________
Purpose: To relate the structures and functions of an animal or plant cell to another model to create an
association of the functions.
Procedure:
1. First brainstorm what topic your group would like to compare your cell to: For example: The Human
Body, McDonald’s, a Computer, or the Solar System
2. Than decide if your group would like to relate your topic to the parts of a cell, or the parts of an
animal. Below are the items you will need to compare depending on the cell part:
a. Animal Cell Parts
i. Nucleus
ii. Nucleolus
iii. Golgi Apparatus
iv. Mitochondrion
v. Ribosome
vi. Lysosome
vii. S.E.R. & R.E.R
viii. Cell Membrane
b. Plant Cell Plants
i. Nucleus
ii. Nucleolus
iii. Golgi Apparatus
iv. Chloroplast
v. Ribosome
vi. S.E.R. & R.E.R.
vii. Cell Membrane/Cell Wall
viii. Central Vacuole
3. Next, begin brainstorming with your group on how the parts of the animal cell/plant cell relate to the
topic.
a. For example: If you pick the Human Body, what part in the human body is like the nucleus,
meaning what part of the human body is in control of the body, just like the nucleus is in
control of the c ell?
4. Create a Poster to display your associations, and explaining why they are alike.
5. When finished you will report back to the classroom on your comparison.
Grading:
- Title: A Cell is Like a(n) ______________________, because: (1pts) .
- Creativity/Neatness: 10pts
o Poster should be:
 Neatly organized, easy to read, and grammatical correct.
 Thoughtful in the topic chosen and comparisons.
 Creative in your display of your cell analogy
- Cell Parts/Topic Parts Comparison: 16pts (1 pt for the picture and association part, 1 pt for the
description of how they are alike)
- Presentation: 3pts: Everyone should take part in this.
- Total Points: 30
