2 Characteristics of
this type of
mountain
Mountains wear
down as they get
older (older=
round, young=
rugged). They are
pushed up by slow
continual stress
that causes rocks
to bend.
The rocks on the
mountains are
formed sideways.
Stress is built up in
the crust and then
is released by the
movement of rock.
An opening in
Earth’s Crust and
the fluid that
comes out of
volcanoes is called
magma.
Name two mountain
ranges that are
examples of each
type of mountain
Himalayas and
Sierra Nevada
and The Grand
Teton
Mountains.
Loihi Volcano
and Kilauea
Volcano.
How is this
Type of Mountain
formed
Fold Mountains
It was formed as the
continental crust
crumples and bend
into folds. It also
forms as the oceanic
plate sinks under the
edge of a continent.
The Rocky
Mountains

Instructions:
Using the mountain ranges listed as examples go to google earth and locate
the mountain range and try to get a picture of the mountain range and paste it
below.
The Sierra Nevada (Fault- Block Mountains)
The Rocky Mountains ( Folded Mountain)
The Kilauea Volcano ( Volcanic
Mountian)
