Specific duties:
1.
Management of marketing and publicity support for STEM
Sussex and its activities.
2.
Development and maintenance of the STEM Sussex social
media presence in accordance with agreed standards and
deadlines.
3.
Production of marketing materials.

Development and maintenance of evaluation and feedback
systems related to STEM activities.
1.
Management of marketing and publicity support for STEM
Sussex and its activities.
1.1
To develop, implement and regularly review a marketing
strategy and plan for STEM Sussex and its activities.
1.2
To design, produce and update publicity for STEM Sussex
activities for promotion to schools, colleges, employers and
partner organisations.
1.3
To produce illustrated press releases, tweets and ‘good news’
stories re STEM Sussex activities immediately following events
and delivery of activities.
1.4
To establish good working relationships with the Marketing and
Communications Department and with colleagues in the
university’s Widening Participation team and in the School of
Education, through regular communications and by instigating,
co-ordinating and attending relevant meetings to ensure flow of
information concerning STEM Sussex initiatives.
1.5
To ensure that the work of STEM Sussex is promoted within
the university and that relevant data is included within targets
and objectives in accordance with Department Strategic Plans
and the University Corporate Plan.
2.
Development and maintenance of STEM Sussex media
presence in accordance with agreed standards and
deadlines.
2.1
To oversee the continual review and evaluation of the STEM
Sussex website in consultation with the Head of STEM Sussex,
ensuring accuracy and quality of content whilst complying with
all relevant legal responsibilities and good practice/sector and
university guidelines for web based information and
presentation.
2.2
To keep abreast of changes and developments in STEM
Sussex, building continuous knowledge of the subject matter
and reflecting this in the content of the website.
2.3
To build and maintain contacts with organisations currently
involved in delivery of STEM activities in Sussex.
2.4
To write content for Twitter, blogs, newsletters etc.
3.
Production of marketing materials.
3.1
To advise on the form and content of marketing materials, and
suggest amendments or improvements.
3.2
To create flyers etc., as appropriate, using in-design or similar.
4.
Development and maintenance of evaluation and feedback
systems related to STEM activities.
4.1
To create an evaluation and feedback plan.
4.2
To review current STEM Sussex evaluation method and advise
where necessary.
4.3
To develop a system of evaluating STEM activities, and
analysing results both with reference to required contractual
outcomes and overall performance of STEM Sussex.
4.4
To report on STEM Sussex impact and feedback trends post
interventions, and make suggestions to improve activities.
Selection criteria:
The criteria below indicate the qualities that are needed to do
the job well. Candidates will be selected according to the extent
to which they satisfy these criteria. Evidence of potential will
also be considered. Most of the criteria must normally be met in
order to qualify for selection.
Essential:
•
Experience: experience of the marketing communications
environment and of the analysis of marketing information to
help inform and shape marketing activity; ability to demonstrate
a good understanding of the processes involved in the
development of marketing plans, campaigns and materials,
including advertising and experience of developing and
implementing marketing activity.

Communication: clear, concise, accurate written and oral
communication with a particular emphasis on maintaining good
customer relations; ability to deal with a wide range of internal
contacts and external organisations in an effective and
appropriate manner, at all levels.

Self motivation: meets objectives on own initiative and within
agreed deadlines.
•
Organisation: ability to develop effective work systems and
meet agreed priorities efficiently.
•
Technical skill: fast, accurate keyboard skills; sound working
knowledge of business applications (word processing,
spreadsheets) and of the development and maintenance of
comprehensive databases; experience of using internet;
excellent web-related technical skills (Wordpress, HTML,
Dreamweaver, data driven web sites, image manipulation,
browsers). Marketing programmes (in-design, Publisher).

Teamwork: ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team.

problems and develop plans successfully.

Physical: ability to use display screen equipment extensively,
in compliance with health and safety guidelines.

Response to change: keeps abreast of developments and
contributes effectively to planning and implementation of


Qualifications: evidence of an appropriate level of educational
attainment, either through vocational or academic
qualifications.
Desirable:

Awareness and interest in the aims and objectives of STEM
Sussex and the STEM agenda.
