Bellringer: Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic word sort.
Each group will get one set of phrases/words. There should
be 20 in all. Your job is to put them into the correct
groups/order. You will get 5-10 minutes to complete this
activity. Make sure you have your final order checked before
copying this into your notebooks.
DLTs:
1. I can analyze the similarities and differences among
eukaryotic versus prokaryotic cells and animal versus plant
cells, in order to compare and contrast these types of cells,
and justify my reasoning.
2. I can apply my knowledge of prokaryotic, eukaryotic, plant,
and animal cells in order to correctly answer questions on the
quiz, and answer questions in the lab.
Today:
1. Mealworm Lab Reports
a. A day due Monday
b. B day due Tuesday
2. 1st nine weeks ends Thursday
3. Cell Structure PPT + notes (modified carousel walk)
a. Use your notes sheets to walk around the room and
find the correct answers from the PPT slides for
questions 1-34.
4. Unit 3, Quiz 1 (10 questions)
5. Microscope and cell lab PPT introduction
6. Microscope and Cell Lab
a. Complete worksheet along with lab
b. Notebook check during lab
7. Trade and grade Microscope and Cells Lab Worksheets
Bellringer Answers:
Prokaryotic Cells
Do not contain a nucleus
Do not contain membrane-bound organelles
Are like an efficiency apartment
Example: Bacterial Cells
Contains free-floating DNA
Contains a Cell Membrane and Cell Wall
Contains Cytoplasm and Ribosomes
Eukaryotic Cells
Are like a mansion
Do contain a nucleus
Do contain membrane-bound organelles
Example: Plant Cells
Contains a Cell Membrane and Cell Wall
Contains Cytoplasm and Ribosomes along with other Organelles
Contains a nucleus with DNA inside
Example: Animal Cells
Contains a Cell Membrane
Contains Cytoplasm and Ribosomes along with other Organelles
Contains a nucleus with DNA inside
Exit Slip:
1. The image above is of what type of cell (prokaryote or eukaryote)? How do you know?
2. What two things does the other type of cell (which is not pictured) contain that this one
does not?
3. Unlike animal cells, plants cells have __________ and __________. Unlike plant cells,
animal cells have _________.
a. Chloroplasts…cell walls…a nucleus
b. Chloroplasts…cell walls…centrioles
c. Chloroplasts…cell walls…cell membranes
d. Centrioles…cell walls…large central vacuoles
