Position Title: Faculty – part time – CHY 114, Chemistry Techniques I

Statement of Job: The University of Southern Maine’s Department of Chemistry is seeking adjunct
faculty candidates for the following course taught both fall and spring semesters on the Portland
campus.
CHY 114 Laboratory Techniques I (meeting time and day TBD depending on candidates schedule)
This course is an introductory laboratory course that serves many majors including chemistry,
biochemistry, biology, and environmental sciences. The course is project based and students explore
various analytical techniques to uncover potential sources of contamination in a river system. The
laboratory experiments illustrate the principles that are presented in the corresponding lecture, CHY 113
(Principles of Chemistry I). Responsibilities include one recitation and two laboratory hours per week.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related, or masters degree with teaching
experience
