Erosion
The wearing away of soil and/or rock by wind, water, temperature change,
or gravity
Fossil
The remains or evidence of past life usually found in sedimentary rocks
Geologist
A scientist who studies geology.
Geology
The study of the earth including its structure, rocks, and minerals.
Hardness
A measure of how easily a mineral can be scratched.
Igneous rock
Rocks formed by the cooling of molten rock at or below the surface.
Luster
The way the surface of a mineral looks when it reflects light.
Magma
Melted rock material that forms deep within Earth.
Magnetism
A magnet’s property of attracting certain materials, mainly iron and steel.
Metamorphic RockRocks formed when existing rocks are changed by heat, pressure, or
chemical reactions.
Mineral
A naturally occurring, non-living solid that has a definite chemical
composition.
Rock
A solid material that is made up of one or more minerals and that may be
used for its properties.
