Title: Mathematical methods of forecasting microclimate conditions in an arbitrary layout network
of underground excavations
Name: Mikhail A. Semin
Mining Institute of Ural Branch Russian Academy of Sciences, Perm, Russia
Abstract: (up to 250 Words)
The mathematical methods of forecasting microclimate conditions in an arbitrary layout network of
excavations are developed based on experimental investigations of MMC Norilsk Nickel deep nickel and
palladium mines. Formulated mathematical model allow calculation of heat distribution in excavations,
considering hydrostatic compression-expansion of air in vertical and inclined workings, presence of heat
liberation (absorption), moisture transitions and natural ventilation. Also the model includes unsteady
rock mass thermal field changes due to heat exchange between rock mass and mine air. The mathematical
model is implemented in “AeroSet” software package developing in Aerology and Thermal Physics
Department of Perm Mining Institute. Air flows and temperature distribution in “Taymirskiy” mine
ventilation network of MMC Norilsk Nickel is presented. Problem areas with temperatures higher than
permitted values are determined by the means of numerical modeling. Received results are compared with
results of accomplished experimental measurements. Different measures of microclimate conditions
normalization in problem areas of the mine are proposed and compared using the theoretical forecasting
microclimate conditions in the mine.
Biography (up to 100 words)
Mikhail A. Semin has become M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2012 in Saint-Petersburg State
Polytechnical University. He is research scientist and Ph.D. student in Perm Mining Institute. Now he is
finishing writing Ph.D. thesis about mine air distribution calculation in case of main fan reversal. During
the postgraduate study in Perm Mining Institute he has published 9 papers in reputed journals.
