The Trojan War is the most famous war in Greek mythology. For those who
have read about it, Helen’s beauty probably seems to be the main cause
1 the
Trojan War. It was her beauty that drove the Trojan prince Paris to
2 her, which
made Helen’s husband, the Spartan king, 3 Troy. Yet,
4 the king’s anger
nor Paris’s love alone destroyed the great city of Troy. The seeds of Troy’s
destruction had already been
5 before this event. Three goddesses were fighting
for a golden apple. They wanted Zeus to decide who should have it. However, Zeus
asked Paris to make the decision because he didn’t want to do the 6 task. Then,
Paris chose Aphrodite, who promised to make Helen fall in love with Paris. Later, the
two left Sparta. The war, thus, began. Still angry about Paris’s choice, Athena
provided the Greek allies with the key 7 the Trojan War. Because of this help,
the Greeks realized 8 to do. They left a wooden horse in front of the gate of
Troy. Later, the Trojans, who
9 it to be a gift of peace, moved it into their city.
When night fell, the Greeks having hidden inside the horse opened the city gate and
with a surprise attack, 10 the Trojan War.

VII. Reading Comprehension
Read the following article and choose the correct answer to each question.
Helen, the queen of Sparta, is said to have been the most beautiful woman of
all time. Her beauty even led to the Trojan War, the greatest war in Greek mythology.
According to some stories, Helen was the daughter of the Greek god Zeus.
When it was time for her to get married, men from all over the land came with
expensive gifts to try to win her love. Menelaus, the king of Sparta, was the man she
finally got married to.
Years later, a Trojan prince named Paris helped Aphrodite win a beauty contest.
To pay him back for his help, Aphrodite promised Paris that she would make Helen
fall in love with him. Paris then traveled to Sparta, and he took Helen back to Troy.
When Menelaus learned what had happened, he called on all of his friends to
help him get his wife back by going to war with Troy. The war lasted for almost ten
years before the Greeks were able to take control of Troy and burn down the city.
Menelaus had planned to kill Helen when she was finally returned to him. When he
saw her, however, he melted because of her beauty. He was unable to kill her. Instead,
he took her back to Sparta to be his wife again.
