Helen
• She was considered the most beautiful woman in the world
• Daughter of Zeus and Leda
• Sister of Castor, Pollux, and Clytemnestra
• Her marriage to Menelaus, king of Sparta, saw her ascend
to the throne of the city as a queen.
• They had a daughter, Hermione, and three sons, Aethiolas,
Maraphius and Pleisthenes.
Athena
•Athena was the Goddess of War, the female
counterpart of Ares.
•She was the daughter of Zeus; no mother bore her. She
sprang from Zeus’s head, full-grown and clothed in
armor.
•The owl was her bird, and the olive tree was hers.
Aphrodite
•Aphrodite was the goddess of fertility, love, and beauty.
•She was the mother of Hermaphroditus by Hermes.
•Aphrodite used a swan-drawn car to glide easily through
the air.
Hera
•Hera was Queen of the Olympian gods.
•She was the wife and sister of Zeus.
•She was the protector of women, presiding over
marriages and births.
•The peacock was sacred to her.
Poseidon
•Poseidon was the God of the sea and the protector
of all waters.
•Poseidon was allotted his dominion after the fall of
the Titans.
•His name is Greek for “husband.”
Zeus
•Greek God of the Sky and King of the Gods
•He is a sky god who controls lightning and thunder
• Zeus is king of Mount Olympus, the home of
Greek gods, where he rules the world and imposes
his will onto gods and mortals alike.
Trojan Horse
•a hollow wooden statue of a horse in which the Greeks
concealed themselves in order to enter Troy.
• The Greeks, pretending to desert the war, sailed to the
nearby island of Tenedos, leaving behind Sinon, who
persuaded the Trojans that the horse was an offering to
Athena (goddess of war) that would make Troy
impregnable.
Trojan War
•conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean
Greece
•the war began after the abduction (or elopement) of
Queen Helen of Sparta by the Trojan prince Paris.
Agamemnon and Menelaus
•Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae or Argos
•Menelaus was a king of Sparta in Greek
mythology, husband of Helen.
Hector and Paris
• Hector was a prince of Troy
• Hector was considered the greatest warrior of Troy, but he did
not approve of the war that had started between the Greeks and
the Trojans.
• Paris was the son of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of
Troy
• Paris eloped with Helen, causing the events that led to the
Trojan War.
