Established in 1912, SFS currently serves nearly 1,500 expatriate children from pre-kindergarten
through twelfth grade, drawn from over 50 different countries. With a distinct Christian philosophy,
SFS continues its long-standing reputation as one of the leading international schools in Asia. A

Situated on 24 acres in a park-like environment within the city of Seoul, SFS is a not-for-profit school,
with an annual operating budget in excess of US $50 million. All overseas faculty and administration
are housed on campus or in apartments close to campus. Administrative and faculty turnover is
normally low with faculty staying five or more years on average. SFS is fully accredited by the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a member of the Council of International
Schools (CIS) and has offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma since 1980 as well as the
IGCSE. SFS is also a candidate school for the PYP and MYP programs.

Seoul Foreign School
Job Summary
The Director of Communications and Marketing will be responsible for the planning,
development and implementation of all of the Organization’s internal and external marketing
strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities. They will direct the efforts
of the marketing, communications, and public relations staff and coordinate at the strategic and
tactical level with the other functions of the school.
Key Responsibilities










Marketing, communications and public relations.
Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of:
o a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will
enhance the Organization’s image and position within the marketplace and the
general public, and facilitate internal and external communications; and,
o all Organization marketing, communications and public relations activities and
materials including publications, media relations, client acquisition and so forth.
Ensure articulation of school’s desired image and position, assure consistent communication
of image and position throughout the school, and assure communication of image and
position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all school
publications.
Coordinate media interest in the school and ensure regular contact with target media and
appropriate response to media requests.
Act as the school’s representative with the media.
Coordinate the appearance of all SFS print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use
of logo, brochures, etc.
Ensure that the school regularly conducts relevant market research, coordinates, and leads
projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events, planning and
budgeting.
Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations mission,
goals and financial objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these
goals and objectives and report progress to the Head of School and Board when required.
Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/ public
relations program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate
performance.







Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary for the smooth
operation of the marketing/communications/public relations team.
Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications and public
relations.
Work with Senior Administration, other staff and volunteers to develop and maintain a
strategic perspective -- based on marketplace and constituent needs and satisfaction.
Help make sure that the school’s philosophy, mission and vision are pertinent and practiced
throughout the school.
Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input from the school’s key constituencies
regarding the quality of programs and services and the school’s relevance.
Help formulate and administer policies to ensure the integrity of the school.
Ensure effective management within the marketing, communications and public relations
team, with provision for succession.
Required Experience and Competencies












Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of
marketing, communications and public relations activities.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills.
Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing,
supervising and appraising personnel.
Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and
negotiating with media.
Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
Computer literacy in word processing, data base management and page layout.
Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
Experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated
success, preferably in the not-for-profit or association sector.
Experience working with volunteers is desirable.
Ability to actively support the Christian Mission of the school
Key Reports:
This position will report directly to the Head of School.
