Don’t Do Drugs Campaign
In our Substance Abuse Unit, you have learned about several harmful substances and the long and short
term effects they can have on the body. Create a group of 3-4 students (NO more) or you can choose to
work alone, and chose a substance that you believe you would like to persuade your peers to stay away
from and choose one of the following activities to complete with your group.
1. Create a song/rap describing one of the substances from our unit and the harmful long and
short term effects it can have on the body. Your song/rap should use vocabulary from the
chapters, and persuade your classmates that this substance is bad and never to try it. A copy of
your song or rap will be given to the teacher on the day of your performance with all the group
member’s names on it. Make sure you have music or some type of beat to perform your
song/rap to. Creativity Counts!!
2. Create a commercial describing and discussing one of the substances from our unit and the
harmful long and short term effects it can have on the body. Your commercial should use
vocabulary from the chapters, and persuade your classmates that this substance is bad and
never to try it. A copy of your commercial will be given to the teacher on the day of your
performance with all the group member’s names on it. You may bring props, pictures, or
posters to use in your commercial. Creativity Counts!!
3. Individual Project Only!! Research one of the substances from our unit and discuss what the
substance is, where it comes from, what form it is taken in, how it is created or manufactured,
and the long and short-term effects that it has on the body. Discuss if the substance causes
physical and/or psychological addiction and if there are withdrawal symptoms that occur with
the use of this drug. You may also want to include pictures and any statistics associated with
the substance. Typed papers should be one and a half pages in length. Hand written papers
should be two pages minimum.
