Organelle Project
For the next two days in class you will be creating a project to teach your classmates about the structure and function of
a cell organelle. Your project is due Friday, September 14th. All of the projects will be graded using the rubric below, but
you may choose to present the project in the way that best suits your learning style and creative personality.
Project Options
1. Song/Rap/Poem – You are an artist that will be performing at the Cell Benefits Concert. You will need to write and
perform a song/rap/poem about the organelles in a plant, animal or bacteria cell.
o You need to create a flyer to match your song/rap/poem for the benefit concert.
2. Storybook- You are a world renown children’s book author. You are to write and illustrate a creative story about a
plant, animal or bacteria cell. Your story must have the following:
 Introduction- Describe the setting of your story. How did you get into the cell? What kind of cell are you in?
What do you see around you?
 Body 1- What is happening to you? Begin to develop the plot. What is it like to be inside of a cell? What is
the focus of this story? Will you be trying get out of the cell, or will something happen to you?
 Body 2- Continue the adventure. How are you traveling around the cell? How are you reacting to what is
happening inside the cell? How are the different cell parts reacting to you?
 Conclusion- Resolve the adventure. How will you end your story? How will you leave the cell (if you do)? Tie
up all loose ends in this section. “Wrap up your story.”
The cell organelles for each type of cell:
 Plant cell organelles: cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, chromosomes, nucleus, ribosomes, ER
(rough/smooth), chloroplasts, mitochondria, vacuole and golgi apparatus/body.
 Animal cell organelles: cell membrane, lysosomes, cytoplasm, nucleus, chromosomes, ribosomes, ER
(rough/smooth), centrioles, mitochondria, vacuole, golgi apparatus
 Bacteria cell organelles: cell wall, capsule, cytoplasm, nucleoid, cell membrane, ribosomes, pili and flagella
