Guidelines
This guideline provides an analytic framework to
assist clinicians in evaluating and treating patients
with community-acquired pneumonia. It is also a
resource to assist practitioners in LCTFs to understand
the rationale for treatment choices. The information
provided is intended for health care professionals,
medical specialty and professional societies,
researchers, and others; not specific to LTC facilities.

Practice
Guidelines for
Evaluation of
Fever and
Infection in LTC
Facilities
Guidelines and standards of practice specific to the
LTC environment from the Infectious Diseases
Society of America are presented. These provide a
rational approach to the evaluation of potentially
infected residents and assist primary providers,
consultants, and other health care staff to recognize
infection, initiate treatment sooner, and improve
outcomes. The authors emphasize that clinical
manifestations of infections are subtle, atypical, or
non-existent in the very old, including fever, and that
diagnostic lab studies should be done and discussed
with the physician promptly. Provides in-depth
information for QIO use and an extensive
bibliography for reference.
Guidelines not specific to LTC facilities but provide
overview information on the vaccine itself,
vaccination programs, target recipients, laboratory
diagnosis and treatment of influenza and control of flu
outbreaks in institutional settings.

Treatment of
Pressure Ulcers
These guidelines comprehensively cover assessment
of pressure ulcer, ulcer care, managing bacterial
colonization and infection, operative repair, and
education and quality improvement in the LCTF
environment.
