The Protoeomics and Lipidomics Center Mass Spectrometer Facility is to provide
state of the art mass spectrometers to the University of Miami community. This
facility provides various types of techniques such as proteomics and
metabolomics (especially lipidomics). The facility provides hands on training on
sample preparation and manipulation in proteomics and lipidomics for
investigators and researchers. This facility is equipped with a Q Exactive Hybrid
Quadrupole Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer and a TSQ Quantum Access MAX Triple
Stage Quadrupole Mass Spectrometers.
Proteomics Resources:
 Current Resources
o Protein Complex Identification (Specialized single protein ID
and complexes)
o Post-Translational Modification Identification (acetylation,
phosphorylation, ubiquitination, etc. as well a lab generated
modifications)
o Using Nano-spray technology and Nano-separation of
protein complexes. (EASY-nLC 1000)
 Future Resources
o Specified Protein Quantification (Label-free quantification,
iTRAQ, SILAC, etc.)
Metabolomics / Lipidomics:
 Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of multiple lipid classes.
o Lipid profiling and comparison.
o Lipid quantification through standard normalization.
o Using accurate delivery of ionized lipid samples through
chip-based direct infusion on a Nano-spray application
