Transcript
Cancer Research Project
Directions:
1. You will be assigned a gene that has been demonstrated to contribute to the development of
cancer in humans.
2. You will research this gene.
3. You will create a 1 page document that answers each of the following questions:
● Is the gene a proto-oncogene, tumor suppressor, DNA repair enzyme, or something else
(tell me what it is, don’t just say “something else”)?
● What does the normal (functional) version of the gene do in the cell?
● What does the mutated version of the gene do that contributes to cancer?
● What cancers is the mutated version of the gene associated with?
4. Along with the answers to these questions, you should feel free to include as many as three
images that you feel are relevant to your explanation. Make sure to label each image, explaining
why you felt they should be included.
5. Please include APA formatted citations for your sources on a separate sheet of paper.
Cancer Genes: No more than 2 students can work on any gene.
