SMB Contract for French Army
At the end of November 2016 NFM was awarded a contract from CESCOF to supply the French
army with 31 600 modular ballistic vests including pouches, at a value of 40 942 400 EUR
excl. VAT (405 329 760 NOK), to be delivered in 2017-2018.
The modular ballistic vest (SMB) is an advanced system that consists of a ballistic vest with
additional protection as well as a ballistic hip belt, a harness, pouches and soft ballistic panels.
The SMB is a modular, tailor-able and scalable personal load bearing and protection system with
possibility of integration of electronic devices, providing the infantry soldier with 360° protection
and load bearing capacity for mission and task essential equipment.
A certain amount of local content has been secured in this contract, such as raw materials from
French suppliers and local production of pouches. The majority of the remaining procurement
is carried out within Europe.
