Project title
Video Moving Image
Entry requirements
This competition is at advanced level. Competitors must be over 16 years of age and studying towards a
nationally recognised level 3 qualification (NVQ/SVQ) or have the equivalent of 2 -7 years experience
and/or training
This competition is intended for teams of between 3 and 4 members who are following a moving
Image/media related training programme.
Project brief
Competitors are asked to use their creative and media skills to come up with an idea for a six second viral
video for a new mineral water drink called ‘Go’ (that uses the slogan ‘Balance your mind and body’ on its
label) to raise awareness of this natural drink during the 2012 Olympic Games.
The detail
For this competition you will be required to: research, develop, storyboard and submit a proposal for a six
second video that is suitable for the viral campaign described below.
The company behind the drink wish to capitalise on the 2012 Olympic Games in London by launching viral
videos on YouTube and Vimeo, and then use social media networks to raise awareness of the product.
Whilst the product is not officially linked to the games, the manufacturers wish to become as synonymous
in the hearts and minds of the public as any of the official sponsors of the event.
Please note: labelling/packaging information for the drink ‘Go’ are provided with this brief and must be
incorporated into your concept..
The manufacture of ‘Go’ require the clip(s) to:
 appear authentic - as if it were shot by the general public. The clip should appear, at first sight, to be
a genuine YouTube clip
 not appear as an advertisement, and not include any captions or slogans, but must include
appropriate product placement
 cement the link between the ‘Go’ drink and the Olympics, or a specific Olympic event in the mind of
the audience
You should demonstrate an understanding, via research, of viral video marketing campaigns.
The submission: The proposal must contain the following in an A4 plastic folder:
A body of relevant and annotated research
- Evidence of ideas generation such as mind maps and mood boards
- A brief proposal or outline for the proposed viral video which addresses it in terms of concept, style
and content

A4 thumbnails or roughs of the proposed viral video
A4 finished storyboard which must include shot types, timings and any other relevant information
A front/contents page
The live pitch: Successful entrants will be asked to present their proposed idea to a panel of media judges
at a venue which will be announced prior to the event. Successful entrants will be given between four and
five minutes to present their concept and should develop their original materials to suit this time span.
Contestants should include a description of how their specific idea could be used to widen the reach of the
campaign as a whole. Judges may ask questions at the end of the presentation.
Marking and assessment
The following headings will be used by the judges in order to decide which ‘Go’ viral proposals will
be selected to go through to the semi-final stage of the competition.
Does the proposal contain:
A body of relevant and annotated research?
Evidence of ideas generation such as mind maps and mood boards?
A brief proposal or outline for the viral video which addresses it in terms of concept, style and content?
A4 thumbnails or roughs of the proposed clip?
A4 finished storyboard which must include shot types, timings and any other relevant information?
A front page or cover which clearly shows the name of students, institution, tutor and contact details
(note-you must be able to tick off all of the above prior to submitting your proposal; entries that do not
address all of the above may not be considered for the semi-finals)
The following headings will be used by the judging panel at the semi-final ‘live pitch’ in order to select which
teams will go through to the ‘live’ finals at The Skills Show, Birmingham in November 2012.
Concept - How successfully is the idea and subsequent storyboard suited to the proposed viral campaign?
Enthusiasm – Is the presentation delivered with confidence and conviction?
Style and approach – Has the presentation format been considered and used effectively and creatively?
Clarity – How easy is it to understand the concept and storyboard?
Primarily, judges are looking for confidence, enthusiasm and inspired ideas presented in a way that is
convincing and engaging.

Competitors must:
 work independantly (without support from outside the group)
 submit all of the materials listed in the competition description above
 ensure all materials are self generated and original
 refrain from including offensive, sexual, political, controversial, or inflammatory text or images
