Ch. 4 Ecology
Distinguish Between abiotic and biotic
factors.
Define key ecological concepts
• Right side – Define the following
– Biotic
– Abiotic
– Niche
– Habitat
– Competitive Exclusion Principle.
Distinguish Between abiotic and biotic
factors.
Define key ecological concepts
• Left side – make a list of biotic and abiotic
factors that might impact a rainforest
ecosystem. Read the story a hike through the
rainforest. Pick one living thing from the story
and describe it’s niche, and habitat, describe
what other organisms it might be in
competition with for resources.
Describe how energy flows through
ecosystems.
• Producers
– Photoautotrophs
– chemoautotrophs
• Consumers
–
–
–
–
–
Herbivores
Carnivores
Omnivores
Decomposers
Saprotrophs
Describe how energy flows through
ecosystems.
• Left Side:
Add a diagram similar to the packet diagram outlining
energy flow in ecosystems.
Explain how food webs and food
chains model feeding relationships.
• Right side – notes from book. Ecology packet etc.
– Be sure to include the following terms:
• Primary consumer
• Secondary consumer
• Tertiary consumer
• Left side – create a food web.
– Use the Hike Through the Rainforest. Create a food
web that contains at least ten organisms two of which
must be producers and has a minimum of one
primary, secondary, and tertiary consumer.
