CELLS
CELL WALL
• Protects the cell and gives it
structure. (Only plant cells have a
cell wall) (Animal cells need to be
flexible in order to move around)
CELL MEMBRANE
Allows things in and out of the cell.
NUCLEUS
The brain center of the cell.
It controls all activity
NUCLEAR MEMBRANE
• Allows things in and out of the
nucleus.
NUCLEOLUS
• It is found inside the nucleus
• It controls ribosome production
CHROMATIN
• Located inside the nucleus.
• It contains genetic information.
CENTRIOLE
• Helps in cell division.
CYTOPLASM
• A jellylike substance in the cell.
• It helps things stay in place.
MITOCHONDRION
• The powerhouse of the cell which
provides energy.
RIBOSOMES
• Control protein production in the
cell.
ENDOPLASMIC
RETICULUM
• The transportation system of the
cell.
GOLGI APPARATUS
• The exporter of the cell.
• It takes things to the cell
membrane.
LYSOSOME
• Gets rid of old organelles in the
cell.
• The garbage man of the cell.
VACUOLE
• The storage tank of the cell.
• Contains mostly water.
• May contain food and waste.
CHLOROPLASTS
• Contain chlorophyll which gives
plants their green color.
• Chlorophyll traps sunlight so the
plant can conduct photosynthesis.
• This gives the plant energy
ANIMAL VERSUS PLANT
CELLS
• Plant cells have a cell wall while
animal cells do not.
• Plant cells have chloroplasts while
animal cells do not. (Plants get
energy through photosynthesis and
animals through what they eat)
ANIMAL VERSUS PLANT
CELLS
• Plant cells usually look square or
like a rectangle due to their cell
wall.
• Animal cells are usually more
rounded because they have to be
able to move around.
