Where Does My Water Come From?
The Cold Stream Reservoir, Blue Spring and five
wells are the sources of supply for the Philipsburg service area. Pennsylvania American Water
maintains two treatment facilities, with a combined capacity of 3.8 million gallons of water a day
(MGD). The Philipsburg treatment facility (2.3 MGD) utilizes the Cold Stream Reservoir, Blue Spring
and three wells as its sources. The Penn Five treatment facility (1.5 MGD) utilizes two wells as its
sources.
Average amount of water supplied to customers on a daily basis
1.3 million gallons per day

Adjusted to maintain optimal corrosion
control.
Hardness (mg/L)

This is made up primarily of the minerals
calcium and magnesium. It is a
component of strong bones and teeth.

Fluoride – added (mg/L)
Sodium (mg/L) (2016)
Pennsylvania American Water adds
Targeted level fluoride to maintain an average
of 0.7
concentration of 0.7 mg/L to assist the
reduction of dental caries.

This amount is normally present in your
water supply.
Free chlorine residual used for
disinfection.
Type of disinfection

Chlorine level that ensures water quality
is maintained in the distribution system.

Corrosion
Inhibitor
Zinc orthophosphate corrosion inhibitor is
added to reduce corrosion tendencies of
the water as it travels through the pipes
from the treatment plants to our
customer’s home.

90% of the results of their customer
sampling pool at or under the level of
0.015 mg/l. For more information click

DEP mandates that water suppliers have
90% of the copper results from their
compliance sampling at or under the level
of 1.3 mg/L.
0.09 to 0.10
Nitrates are naturally present in our
untreated source water. DEP mandates
that the level be kept under 10 mg/l at all
times.
