Yearbook of Physical Anthropology
Editor’s Report, AAPA Annual Meeting, 2016
Trudy R. Turner
The 2016 Yearbook of Physical Anthropology included 11 articles and a total of 274 printed pages. This is nearly
double the number of articles and a 47% increase in the number of pages from the previous year. We are extremely
pleased to be able to offer readers these excellent additional articles. We are able to do this because the Yearbook has
moved to a fully online publication. We are grateful to Tiffany McKerahan and Golda Thomas of Wiley and Thomas
Manbeck of Cenveo Publishing for helping us make this transition as well as for their continued expertise and advice. As
of last year, all Yearbook publications are freely available on the Wiley website.
The editorial board makes every effort to include contributions from all the sub-areas within biological
anthropology (see Fig. 1). Please note that Bioarcheology has been added as a distinct topic area this year. An analysis of
the past twelve years of contributions to the Yearbook indicates that some sub-areas remain much better represented
than others in the Yearbook (see Fig. 2). We are making some progress in addressing this and hope to continue to do so.
We strongly encourage all our colleagues to consider the Yearbook as a venue for their publications.
The Yearbook publishes reviews of current research in biological anthropology. Recommendations for subject
areas and authors are appreciated. Many Yearbook articles are solicited, but unsolicited papers are most welcome.
Submission requirements are detailed at the Yearbook link on the AAPA page of the Wiley website. Please also feel free
to consult with any member of the Editorial board.
I am deeply grateful to the authors and reviewers of Yearbook articles. I am also enormously indebted to the
editorial board of the Yearbook, Shara Bailey, Robin Bernstein, Jeff Long, Debra Martin, David Sprague, Bob Sussman and
Chris Vinyard for their hard work, thoughtful advice and continued helpfulness.
