Field Theory
•According to psychologist Kurt Levin individuals are
influenced by a number of diversified factors both
genetic and environmental
•Influenced by Gestalt psychology, Lewin developed a
theory that emphasized the importance of individual
personalities, interpersonal conflict and situational
variables. Lewin's Field Theory proposed that
behavior is the result of the individual and the
environment. This theory had a major impact on
social psychology, supporting the notion that our
individual traits and the environment interact to
cause behavior.
Learning theories
1. Classical conditioning – a type of conditioning in
which an individual responds to some stimulus that
would not ordinarily produce such a response.
2. Operant conditioning – a type of conditioning in
which desired voluntary behavior leads to a reward
or prevents a punishment.
3. Social Learning – learning through both observation
and direct experience
The influence of models is central to the social-learning
viewpoint.
